Teaching a nation’s war-orphaned children about the basics of oral health is no easy task.

But that’s the job best friends Loven Ganeswaren and Kiri Sivanandan faced when visiting their homeland, Sri Lanka, in 2011, just as the country was just beginning to recover from decades of civil war.

But it wasn’t just about brushing and flossing. It was about helping them understand why it mattered.

‍In the end, it wasn’t hours in the classroom or complex demonstrations that resonated with the youngsters, but a simple nursery rhyme written on the fly in a few minutes.

When Loven and Kiri returned to Sri Lanka years later, they were greeted with smiles, hugs, and everywhere singing the song they wrote all those years ago.

It had taken on a life of its own…
